Story

The product of a privileged upbringing, Aerie Renette is the offspring of the artist known for four interconnected paintings collectively titled The Seasons. As an adult, her namesake's prestige afforded her a position at a leading gallery as its curator. Among the pieces under her watch was The Night of the Seasons—the third in her father's series—until it disappeared only to be replaced with an ominous note questioning its authorship. The remaining works had long changed hands in private and public circles, but the challenging of her father's legacy provided Aerie a new path. By night, she searches not only for the thief but the locations of the remaining pieces. All leads, including those procured by investigating a leading appraiser with intimate knowledge of two centuries of art, amount to little prior to receiving her invitation to the island. There, Aerie meets more than one familiar face, including the uncle by marriage from which she had long been estranged. By winning, she is promised not only repatriation of The Seasons but the identity of the thief responsible for having taken them, alongside the evidence needed for their prosecution.
